Garden Maintenance In North Balwyn
May 5, 2019As the icy winter months approach there are several things we can do to prepare our gardens for the cold. Greenbelt Garden Care have been busy doing just that with garden maintenance in North Balwyn and surrounding suburbs.
Many of the lawns we mow have become dry and compacted from the long summer with very little rainfall that Melbourne have had this year. Our team have been fertilising lawns for clients once a month before the cold sets in. We’ve raised the height of our mowers because longer blades of grass protect lawns from frost better. Another task we’ve been doing is aerating the grass to allow oxygen to get to the soil. We use an aerator but for those of you who don’t have one, a pitchfork will do the job too! Although many types of lawns go dormant in winter it’s important to keep them healthy during this time so they’re ready to bounce back once the weather warms in spring.
This is also the perfect time to plant those winter vegetable seedlings into the vegie garden. Spinach, lettuce, carrots, peas and cabbage are just a few. Maybe you don’t have a vegetable garden but would like to make one? Just ask us as we love to create garden beds and vegetable gardens.
Mulching is also crucial to protect the roots of your plants from the cold. Let us know which garden beds need mulching and we can do this for you in no time at all. Call or email Greenbelt Garden Care for all your garden maintenance in North Balwyn and surrounding suburbs.
